Ban Those Barrettes!

October 13, 2008

Barrettes and elastic ponytail holders are very efficient and convenient to hold and style hair, but they certainly don’t help to keep it strong and healthy.  Your hair is most likely stressed enough with blowdrying, flat ironing, and coloring- don’t weaken your hair any further by using damaging barrettes and elastic ponytail holders too often.  They tend to catch and stretch hair, weakening the strands and actually pulling them out.

Instead, use softer scrunchies and claw clips to hold hair.  It is also helpful to keep your hairstyles loose to reduce pull and stress at the roots.  A tight ballerina bun is too severe!  Treat your hair with care because there is no guarantee on how long you will hold on to it.

Allure Product Pick

Another great product pick featured in Allure’s Best of Beauty Issue is Essie’s Limo-Scene nail polish.  Allure says, “this whitish pink is sheer, clean, and one notch more substantial than clear polish.”

Get Rid of That Green

October 2, 2008

If your hair has ever turned green from swimming in a pool, don’t blame it on the chlorine…it’s the copper!  If you’ve been spending time in a poorly maintained pool you may be collecting copper deposits in your hair.  If you then wash your hair with a high pH shampoo, it’s going to turn green.  Choose a low pH shampoo to counteract this chemical reaction.
